Trading

MMPA buys and sells electricity with other utilities, energy traders and the Midcontinent Independent System Operator (MISO). These transactions allow MMPA to meet our load, manage our cost of electricity and earn margins on sales of electricity from our plants and contractual resources.

MMPA Trades Electricity Beyond the Network of Our Members

When we generate electricity in excess of our members’ needs, or when members require more electricity than is immediately available, we trade energy on the open market. Our traders maintain commercial relationships with energy markets throughout the region and are active 24 hours a day to ensure that excess energy is sold at the best price possible and that members always have adequate power.

Long Term Contracts

MMPA engages with a variety of contractual partners to buy and sell electric power on a long term basis. Inquiries on this subject may be directed to Oncu Er (612) 349-6868.
