Walleye Wind Project Moving Forward

August 10, 2020

The Walleye Wind project made two major filings with the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission (PUC) on July 9.  The project developer, a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources LLC, submitted applications for both a site permit and a certificate of need for the 111.5 MW project located in Rock County, Minnesota.

The Minnesota Municipal Power Agency, a joint action agency with twelve municipal utility members, has a long-term power purchase agreement for all energy generated by the project.  In its PUC filings, Walleye Wind notes that the successful completion of the project is important to MMPA’s renewable energy and carbon reduction goals.

Walleye Wind has stated that its expects construction to be complete and the facility to be operational by the end of 2021.
