Le Sueur/ Our Communities

The City of Le Sueur is located approximately 30 miles south of the Twin Cities metro area on Highway 169. The city was originally known for the Green Giant company, whose symbol, the Jolly Green Giant, still welcomes visitors and residents to the city on a large billboard. Today Le Sueur is home to several unique industries including Davisco International, a food processor, Le Sueur Inc., a casting and molding manufacturer, and Cambria, a manufacturer of quartz countertops. The Le Sueur Electric Utility Department has been providing the city with electric power since the early 1900's, when a 100 horsepower steam engine was installed. In 1992, Le Sueur and seven other cities joined together to form MMPA.

The Home Energy Audit program identifies your home's energy wasters and makes it easy to discover the most cost-effective ways to save energy and money while making your home more comfortable.

If you qualify for Energy Assistance in MN, you are eligible for a free energy audit through the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP).  Contact Minnesota Valley Action Council at (800) 767-7139 to see if you qualify. Information on WAP can be found here.

Residential Rebates

Rebates are offered for qualifying ENERGY STAR® appliances including quality installed central air-conditioners and air-source heat pumps, dishwashers, refrigerators, clothes washers and for compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs. Applications are available online and at the City Hall or 228 Main Street.

Green Power Choice

Green Power Choice is a voluntary program offered to MMPA customers. The program currently offers Hydropower and Wind Power purchased from the Minnesota Municipal Power Agency.

Why Purchase Green Power?

By purchasing green power you support increased reliance on sustainable energy sources, thereby reducing the burning of fossil fuels. Unlike fossil fuels, power generated from sustainable energy sources does not produce harmful emissions. Sustainable energy sources like water and wind are replaced naturally in the environment.

How Does it Work?

Hydropower and wind power are offered in blocks of 100 kilowatt hours for $1.75 per block. You can choose to purchase any combination of wind or hydro blocks. Signing up is easy! Simply fill out the participation form included in your monthly bill.
